Home Contstruction
Home Contstruction

After discussing the different kinds of homes and houses people live in, houses, apartment buildings, etc. students were asked to draw a blue print of a home. It could be the one they live in, one that they visit, read about in a book or saw in a movie. Or from their imagination! They drew their blue print using geometric shapes, then built their home with cardboard and glue using their blue print as their guide, just like a real builder. After their homes were built they painted them black with acrylic paint, and colored them with chalk pastels.

W.O.W. Sharing

W.O.W. stands for Wonderful Original Work! At the end of 5th grade students proposed their final project ideas. They were given an opportunity to decide what materials they would use, and what they wanted their final project to look like. They could choose from Fibers materials, Clay, 3D construction and painting. At the end of the project students got to share their work, similar to a science fair set up with all of their art on display in the art room. Students visited each art work an left a comment or a question for the artist on a comment card.

This student decieded that for his final project he would create a "Super Kumihimo Braid." Students learned this traditional form of Japanese circular weaving earlier in the year, on a much smaller scale.
